Fear vs Trust

There are times when even the strongest among us feel fear. Late at night in a large parking lot walking to your car alone, isn’t there a tinge of fear? What about when there is a loss of income or a portion of it, doesn’t that bring a little fear? Fear is a natural response that can be used to make us more cautious and dependent on God. The Psalmist said, “When I am afraid, I will trust in you.” (Psalm 56:3) How often are you afraid? Fear desires to control you, cause you to run and hide, think badly of people and God. Fear deprives you of joy, rest, comfort, peace, success, the ability to risk, advancement, and I’m sure you can add here more descriptive words that relate to your life. Fear causes you to drawn in, protect your central core, and think negatively. Whereas trust gives you joy, peace, rest, willingness to risk, success, and launches you out, releases you to dream, and engages you in fantastic journeys. A Gift

Are their seeming contradictions in your life that you are willing to live with? A contradiction is a condition in which things tend to be in opposition to each other. It is a situation you think will not help you but in the end it proves to be the very thing that does help you. The Apostle Paul had many cases like this but the one we are most aware of was his struggle with what he called "a thorn in my flesh." We are not told if it was a physical ailment, emotional problem, or mental issue but he says it was given to him "to torment him." Now that doesn’t sound too good, in fact it sounds pretty bad, but here he was with great knowledge of the Old Testament, huge passion for unbelievers to find God, and leadership unmatched in the New Testament and he had this thing that continually poked at him and made life harder.
