Heart of Love

What are the driving forces of love? Is it just a gooey, mushy feeling that some possess or does it have a strong central core that is full of reason, fortitude and persistence? Big question. In order to investigate love, let's consider an example from Paul's letter to Timothy. Paul urged Timothy to stay in Ephesus in order that Timothy might be in leadership of the church and therefore able to "command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies." (1 Timothy 1:3-4a) Paul loved his younger brother in the faith, Timothy, and also loved the Ephesus church in which Timothy was serving. His love was not based on motives of selfishness or pride but on a total commitment to the welfare of believers. Paul went on to say that false doctrines, myths and genealogies all "promoted controversies rather than God's work." Right Living

What are two ways you can know that you are doing what is right today? People seem to continually "adjust" themselves to the world around them. They appease others to protect themselves or they use others to get what they want but God has declared how we are to daily live a right life. Paul, the apostle, made this very clear to one of the churches he had established. He said, “May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.” (2 Thessalonians 3:5) Paul illustrates this right living to the believers of Thessalonica. He uses God the Father and Jesus Christ the Lord as examples. It can't get any better than that. The first part was to allow the love which God the Father had shown them become the motivating factor through them. They were in sin, riddled with the idolatry of the world, and in a deep pit but God brought them out to light, freedom, and peace.
