Becoming Wise

You've probably seen it. A person who is wise, who when they talk just seems to have a depth and breadth to them that goes beyond others. They see things that others miss and blow us away by their insights. People respond positively to them and they are a blessing in their community. How could you become this kind of person? Solomon was identified as a wise person and said this about gaining wisdom. "He who walks with the wise grows wise." (Proverbs 13:20) So, what does it mean to walk with the wise? "Walking with" involves going along in the same direction. It means being beside, together. It implies a respect for the other; an honor of their words and lifestyle. It involves mutual consent. It implies an agreement with their standards and a trust in them to not steer your wrong. It involves thankfulness for what they are doing with you. It involves listening and being challenged by them. So, gaining wisdom and becoming a wise person means you walk with the r…

Moon Shine

Has there ever been a time when the moon did not come up at the beginning of the night? Has it ever stopped reflecting the sun to us? No, the moon is "the faithful witness in the sky." (Psalm 89:37) The psalmist expresses this fact when speaking of the faithfulness of God to King David. This is called the Davidic Covenant and references the blessing of God on the nation of Israel because of His servant David. Through all his humanness, David is a man after God's own heart and because of that God states his perpetual love for him and covenant to him. God will not take his love away from David "forever." He will establish the line of David "forever." And why would God do that, because Jesus the Messiah of Israel and the Savior of the world will be born in this line. He will be the eventual ruler of Israel and the world. The psalmist uses the moon to illustrate this love and consistent presence with David's line. As we said at the beginning of this …
