Universal Acknowledgement

"Kepler-452b is the closest thing we have to another place that somebody else might call home." This statement from a front page article in USA Today Weekend, July 24-26, 2015, seeks to excite us anew about life on other planets. This newly identified "cousin" to earth was spotted by NASA's Kepler telescope and is "some 1,400 light-years from Earth." But all that man wishes were true, the evolutionary process happening on other planets, the story that we are only one planet among many in the universe where life exists, keeps him busy in his musings and causes him to overlook what is perfectly clear in the heavens. The Scripture says, "the heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world." (Psalm 19:…

Favored and Protected

Do you feel watched? Is there any concerned for you? David makes it evident that he trusts in God and that he truly has the heart of God. He prays, “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings..” Psalm 17:8 The focusing mechanism or aperture of the eye is the iris. It is the round pigmented membrane surrounding the pupil. It can choose to focus on whatever it wants and whatever it does focus on could be considered cherished, most dear, and especially beloved. Birds place their young under their wings to protect them. So here the Psalmist David, asks God to keep him in His focus and to cover him with His protection. God has sent us this message through the death and resurrection of Christ; we are the apple of His eye. He has also covered us with His protection, starting with the gift of eternal life and then our daily routine of life. This does not necessarily preclude an accident or injury but even in that there is always worse that could have happened. P…

Flawless

What is the word used when you find the most valuable of diamonds? It is ´flawless´ however that is only an opinion. Soon under the microscope its tiny flaws will be discovered. Gold and silver are refined at least seven times to get them to the state of 99.9% pure. It is hard for them to ever be 'flawless.' Tempered steel has been heated and cooled several times to align the particles in it to enhance its strength but a steel beam is not 'flawless,' it does have a breaking point as was found out in the Twin Towers of New York City. A woman thinks she has to be flawless and even though she works to make it so, she will never meet the meaning of the word. There will be a blemish in her skin, in her voice or eye or ear. Her feet or nose or hands will be less than perfect. Even plastic surgery will fall short of creating perfection which in all of humanity has only been found in one woman, Eve. A lawyer may believe the contract he creates is flawless but in it somewhere …

Spiritual Hope

“Against hope” is the calculation by Abraham of the certain impossibility of being a father, let alone a “father of all nations.” This evaluation relates to the physical state of Abraham and Sarah’s bodies: “His body was a good as dead” and “Sarah’s womb was also dead.” (Romans 4:19) But against this physical impossibility stands his other calculation of certain possibility through a faith based on the eternal God he is serving who is all powerful and all faithful. “Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him.” (Romans 4:18) This spiritual hope becomes unwavering in verse 20, and supersedes the physical hope and embraces faith inside Abraham’s heart. This is what our life is all about; it is recognizing the eternal God moving in our temporal world to accomplish the impossible through us. It is stepping out by faith when we cannot see the end and believing that that end will be in line with God's will. When w…
