The difference between how we were created and how we now are is evident. God created us "from the dust of the ground and breathed into [our] nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being," He created us "in [His] likeness" "in the image of God He created him." (Genesis 1:26-27) And then man, who was in a perfect environment, chose to disobey God and his spirit was darkened and his heart went to evil first instead of not at all. Consider the first two boys, Cain ends up murdering his brother, Abel. Solomon, the wisest man on the earth ever, commented on this negative turn of events when he said, "This only have I found: God made mankind upright, but men have gone in search of many schemes." (Ecclesiastes 7:29) Man was made perfect and righteous in all his ways but he also had the ability to decide and it is in his one decision to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that he, and we, became burdened.
