Wealthy

How should you deal with your wealth? This word "wealthy" means different things in different cultures. Wealthy is the middle-east in earlier times was lands, cattle, sheep and it is still that way in other parts of the world. Wealthy in the western world is considered money usually amassed by one who has developed a business that has thrived and given their owner financial resources. For those of us in America, we think "wealthy" refers to someone much richer than ourselves but poor people in America are considered wealthy by those who live in poverty around the globe. Therefore, whatever amount of "wealth" you have, the principle that Solomon said was the best thing you could do with it was, "Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. People curse those who hoard their grain, but they bless the one who sells in time of need." (Proverbs 11:24-26…

Justice

In light of all that the so called "deep state" has tried to do to President Trump, their plans and "back up plan" have fallen apart. We find a group of people that operated the same way referenced in the book of Psalms. David wrote, "Protect my life from my enemies' threats, hide me from the plots of this evil mob, from this gang of wrongdoers. They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows. They shoot from ambush at the innocent, attacking suddenly and fearlessly." (Psalm 64:1-4) "They encourage each other to do evil and plan how to set their traps in secret. 'Who will ever notice?' they ask. As they plot their crimes, they say, 'We have devised the perfect plan!' Yes, the human heart and mind are cunning." (64:5-6) However, they have forgotten about God who sees and hears all. They are devoid of conscience and lean heavily on their own savviness to accomplish their plans. "But God Himself w…

Overwhelmed

Remember a time that you were overwhelmed? What caused such a strong response inside you? Think about when that happened to you; when your emotions burst out and you had no words to describe the feeling you were experiencing. David had such an experience of joy and hope because of God's care and might. He expressed this in the words of Psalm 65. First, David recognized that "all of us must come to You [God]," even though we are overwhelmed by our sins." God is NOT overwhelmed by them but is Savior for them. He will "forgive them all" and even chooses to bring David near to Him. This produced incredible joy in David's heart. (Psalm 65:2-4) Second, David realized that God is his Savior not only initially but perpetually; the One who "faithfully answers our prayers with awesome deeds." His mighty hand is active and powerful in David's life which leads him to exclaim, "You are the hope of everyone on earth...and those who live at the ends …

Back to the Future

This famous trilogy of movie shows what happens when events of the past are changed. Results are different and sometimes not really desired. God is always working in the back years to prepare the way for the future years? We think through all the events that have transpired over history and if we are objective can see the hand of God at work in the moment but also in hundreds of years before that moment. Consider Joseph and Mary traveling to Bethlehem Jesus' birth site as prophesied but because of a Roman tax declaration. There are many others but let's look at one specific event that triggered long lasting results. Just before the Promise Land was entered for conquest, Moses made a second "list" of the men of every tribe who would be property owners in the new land. "Not one person on this list had been among those listed in the previous registration taken by Moses and Aaron in the wilderness of Sinai…except Caleb and Joshua." (Numbers 26:64-65) But the daug…

Search Me

Search Me Have you ever been on a search? Maybe it was Geo Caching, or maybe it was for a lost bike, your keys or a coat that you laid down somewhere. We search a lot, even in our minds and our emotions. Consider this; the Holy Spirit is searching the hearts of men 24/7/365. It's part of His responsibility. He is searching us for sin. And, He has a secret advantage in His searching…He knows our thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, and sees our emotions and actions, too. Our invitation to Him should be one of inclusion, "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." (Psalm 139:23-24) We should be asking Him to help us search our souls, our minds and ways. Why, because He is committed to conforming us to the image of the Son. (Romans 8:29) But our desire to ask for help can be hindered by two things. The comparison game which keeps us focused on other's sins, to view them…
