Home

This is a special place. We are either departing from it or returning to it. It is the place we sleep, eat, grow, train (Deut. 6:7), and fellowship with family. It "fits" us, protects us, and anchors us. It is a place of welcome. The prodigal son desired it. (Luke 15:17) Laban brought weary Jacob to his. (Genesis 29:13) Naomi returned from Moab to hers. (Ruth 1:6) Jesus spent time with Mary and Martha in theirs. Zacchaeus welcomed Jesus to his. John the disciple, took Mary, Jesus' mother, into his. Even sparrows, storks, and badgers have homes. (Psalm 84:3; 104:17; and Proverbs 30:26) In fact all animals do. This word "home" is used 186 times in the NIV translation of the Bible. It can be a tent, a mansion, or an apartment, but also a city, a nation, or a people. But here are the most assuring thoughts about home. Don't

We hear this word said a lot by parents to children. We hear it also in schools, in training classes and at work. It is meant as a deterrent to protect those who hear it. It is used this way in Scripture, too. In one of his last days on the earth, Jesus was walking out of the Temple at Jerusalem when his disciples began remarking about the "majestic stonework…and the memorial decorations on the walls." (Luke 21:5) His remarked to them, "The time is coming when all these things will be completely demolished." (21:6) This filled the disciples with curiosity so they asked him, "When will all this happen?" and "What sign will show us that these things are about to take place?" (21:7) So, as their wise Rabbi he gave them three don'ts which should rule their life and which are applicable to us as well: Don’t Believe Them! He said there would be great falsehoods perpetrated on them by individuals who said they were the "Messiah."…
