Judging

5/12 Judging  Do you have a tendency to judge people on their outward appearance? Is it easy to come to conclusions about a new person you have just met before really getting to know them? This is something we all do some of the time, even without thinking. What would be a principle to follow to help you to eliminate this kind of judging? Jesus was discussing with a crowd of Jews about the fact that they violate the letter of the law concerning the Sabbath. They would circumcise a child on the eighth day even if it was the Sabbath although it was considered work. He asked them the question, if you are doing this kind of violation because it is a good thing, "why should you be angry with me for healing a man on the Sabbath?"  Wouldn't that be considered a good thing? (John 7:23) He wanted them to see how ridiculous it was to be picking out certain things that they considered work on the Sabbath that benefited them but not allowing other things that would benefit another on…

Peaceful Heart - Heart Series 2

There are the two words that bring hope and desire to our minds. Just think about it, a heart that is at rest, quiet, calm, maybe even hopeful. That would be nice, you might say. So let's consider it. The heart, whether you are talking about the one that is beating in your chest, or the one that is in the depths of your soul are both important and can be peaceful. Then the night comes, sleep is maybe a possibility, and then a new morning breaks and the heart is still impounded in the above mess. But wait, Solomo…

Suffering

If you think for one moment that the world is becoming more comfortable with the message of Jesus Christ, you are wrong. It is becoming just the opposite. Consider that most higher as well as lower educational institutions in America are vehemently opposed to Christianity. There is increasingly no place on any campus for the message of the gospel. Evil forces build and brew to bring harm on the greatest story ever told. Are you surprised? When Jesus felt the need to inform his closest disciples that he would "suffer many terrible things at  the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law" and "would be killed" (Matthew 16:21), his disciples, through the voice of Peter, told him it couldn't be so. "Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things." (16:23) It surprised them. And Jesus' response was, "You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God's." (16:23) Fa…
