Emotion

One of the key ingredients to the soul is emotion. It stands alongside the mind as the two great influencers of the will. But fury without knowledge is like a dissipating wave on the sea shore; unable to be sustained. Solomon was the wisest of all kings, said so by God, and he studied humanity to learn important lessons. He said, "Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and a fool. Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; hast makes mistakes." (Proverbs 19: 1-2) An uninstructed child acts rashly. This child grown into an ignorant adult becomes a person of impulse and impatience which leads them to assumption, false accusations, and misunderstanding. Ignorance gives way to perpetual folly. There is a balance between the mind and emotion that helps a person grow and expand into adulthood. Truth and reason need to dominate the mind's landscape. They need to have full reign but are held back when emotion takes over center stage. Chalmers is quoted as saying, "It i…

Chiggers

Adult chiggers are a bright red mite that crawl on the ground. The adult female is 1/20th of an inch long, but the larvae are a mere 1/150th of an inch. They can cause you several days of irritation. Chiggers exist in tall grass, weeds and heavily shaded areas because these are moister. They raise their arms to catch on to our clothing. Once on us they attach their mouths to the skin around a hair follicle or a pore and secrete saliva that digests the skin cells which they then eat. Yuch! The best repellents contain either DEET or permethrin. Another way to keep them off you is to keep lawn areas mowed and use insecticides containing acaricide, sevin and cyfluthrin to lower chigger populations. Once bitten, the only way to stop the itching is to seal off the wound from air. Use products such as Vaseline, cold …

Contentment

Where does your contentment lie? Many believers put it in the possessions they own or the money they have amassed. To keep ourselves in perspective, God's Word challenges us in the following way: The writer of Hebrews said, "Don't love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, 'I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.'"  (Hebrews 13:5) The love of money is a danger that we must avoid if we are to live by faith. Satisfaction for the believer cannot be found in the material. In fact, if you are not satisfied with what you have, then the following could be true of you: You are not thankful for God's provision for youYou are disappointed in your "lot" in lifeYou are "enticed and drawn away" to having more than you presently have and that is a form of greed. You may be jealous, envious of others stuff (keeping up with the Jones' syndrome)You are not resting in God which is contentment, j…
