Internet

What do we really learn from the internet? What is behind all the stories? The internet is a window into the soul of humanity. No matter where a video comes from, we begin to recognize the similar joys, problems, opportunities, failures, successes and more people face all over the world. I have sat for one hour (only once cause it's a waste of time) and just viewed video after video and I'm struck by the commonalities that they project. Nature interacts with humanity from floods to fires to winds to tornados to hurricanes to whatever, and always gets the upper hand on us. People doing incredible things because they're bored or smart or stupid. Mountains of information to wide, to deep, to varied, and all showing the world's great knowledge. It is amazing what men or women can create. We have no end of books, videos, music (all based on a 7 note scale). Match the internet with this: "Oh, how great are God's riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is fo…

Timing

Have you ever experienced a gift of money coming at just the right time? How about being at the right place at the right time? How about all the circumstances working out to make everything turn out right for you? Timing is sometimes something we have no hand in, it just happens to us, but God's timing is created by Him. Consider Jesus' entrance into this world. Why did he come when he did? What made that time so special? His birth into the world was unique. Never before or since has the world unwittingly been so focused on any event. God was working on Emperors and Rulers to create just the right climate for His Son to enter. Several places writers in the Bible speak to this: Romans 5:6 says, "at just the right time"; Galatians 4:4 "when the time had fully come"; 1 Timothy 2:6 "in its proper time"; and Luke 2:31 "which you have prepared in the sight of all people." The following major adjustments allowed for the quick spread of the gospel…

Ten

On the morning of the third day after the people of Israel had arrived at Mt. Sinai, which was exactly two months after they left Egypt, thunder roared and lightning flashed and a dense cloud descended over the mountain. I'm sure the people of Israel were scarred and wondering what the next step would be in their journey to the Promise Land. Moses was called up by God to speak with Him on the mountain. This was not a magician's trick, but a moment long to be remembered by Israel. Moses was sent back down to warn the people not to approach the mountain and also to have Aaron come back with him. God gave "instructions" to them both which were called the Ten Commandments. These two stone tablets were "inscribed with the terms of the covenant, written by the finger of God." (Exodus 31:18) You would have thought that because God knows everything He would have written a duplicate set, knowing that Moses would go down and find the people worshiping a golden calf ido…

Secrets

A secret is hidden in the heart; something that is known by one or some, and kept from others. It is held there for fear of what would happen if it was ever revealed. There are secrets at every level of society: in individuals, in families, and in government. David "sent messengers to get her [Bathsheba]; and when she came to the palace, he slept with her." (2 Samuel 11:4) This was kept secret and so was the fact that she had conceived a child. Because of this secret, David sent a letter to Joab, commander of his army who was engaged in a battle with David's enemies. He secretly instructed him to put Uriah, Bathsheba's husband and one of the mighty warriors in the army (1 Chronicles 11:41), in a place where he would be killed in the battle. These two secrets (adultery and murder) were held in David's heart until Nathan revealed to David that God knew about them. The psalmist proclaimed under inspiration, "You spread out our sins before you—our secret sins—and …
