Confidence Principle of a Second Chance

A mulligan is a term used in golf when you are permitted a do over. It is a second chance to complete an action after a first chance has gone wrong. In golf a player is informally allowed to replay a stroke, even though it is against golf's formal rules. We all have desired this in life, even if we feel we didn't deserve it. To be able to start again, begin anew, and have the opportunity to cover over a previous mistake is everyone's dream. Job went through a terrible time where he lost children, wealth, and his health. He had friends come and attack his character, claiming he had sinned, but Job believed in himself and God "restored his fortunes." (Job 42:10) He "blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning." (42:12) Israel got a second chance when they were returned to their own land after seventy years of captivity. Comfort

What's it like to be comforted? My experience has been that it makes you feel that you are not alone and it's even better when the person comforting you has been through a situation like yours. It might be divorce, could be the death of a family member, or the loss of your job, to name a few troubles. Just knowing that you are not the only person who has ever experienced something like that is a comfort. We all need a little bit of comfort once in a while. So, what more does God say about comfort? At the beginning of 2 Corinthians, Paul wanted to encourage believers in Corinth about comfort. He said, "God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us." (1:3-4) God is the source of comfort. He is not an angry and petulant Father. He is full of mercy, which is what we don't deserve, but He extends. So, we see…
